Is Your Dream Home’s Price Fair?
Check recent comparable sales; if the price sits 10–15% higher, ask what makes it special.
Look at days on market—homes lingering longer than average often signal overpriced expectations.
Scan the listing history; repeated relisting or price cuts can reveal a seller adjusting reality.
Renovations, premium appliances, or finished basements can justify a higher asking price.
If the numbers don’t add up, wait—sellers often negotiate once a listing sits longer.
Will Canadian Mortgage Rates Stay Stable in 2026?
The Bank of Canada policy rate is currently 2.25%, with most forecasts expecting interest rates to remain largely stable through 2026.
Canada’s prime rate sits near 4.45% while inflation is about 2.3%, suggesting borrowing costs may stay steady rather than fall sharply.
By the end of 2026, about 33% of Canadian mortgage holders are expected to face higher payments when renewing their mortgages.
Borrowers renewing 5-year fixed mortgages may see average payment increases around 20%, reflecting the shift from ultra-low pandemic-era rates.

How Canada can turn housing investments into more rental homes
Canada's $51 billion Build Strong Communities Fund aims to address the housing crisis but faces delays due to complex coordination among federal, provincial, and municipal governments. High upfront development charges hinder rental projects, as these fees must be paid before rental income accrues. Proposed infrastructure financing reforms could spread costs over time, improving project viability. Ready-to-build infill projects exist but require clearer policies and urgent action to prevent labor shortages and stalled construction.
